paid work
is the first in a series of pieces about work made for an exhibition at The Museum Of Bath At Work. It is a coiled piece 40cm x 30cm, which is has been made by coiling from Crank clay. This piece is representative of the work we do for financial gain, which for most of us dictates the routines of our lives. The piece has been coiled and wheels, cogs and engineering shapes have been made from clay and attached to the piece. It has then been indented with pattern then fired to 1160 c. Coloured glaze has been rubbed into the indentation and wiped away, as well as painted on to the surface area before being fired to 1080c. Platinum lustre has then been applied to some areas of the outside and fired again to 800c. When the firing has been completed a collage of found metal objects associated with engineering, jewellery or everyday objects completes the decoration. It is named, signed and dated by the artist 2017 and can be viewed in The Museum of Bath at Work |
art work is the second in a series of pieces about work. It is a coiled piece which is has been made by coiling white earthenware clay. This piece is representative of the work some do for creative and artistic endeavour. The piece has been coiled and ceramic press moulded models of Venus de Milo have been made and attached to the piece, seemingly to hold up the rim of the pot. Three areas have been dedicated to the hanging space for paintings and the whole item is representative of the many Victorian art galleries which were built to house artwork. It has then been indented with pattern then fired to 1160c. Coloured glaze has been rubbed into the indentation and wiped away, as well as being painted on to the surface area before being fired to 1080c. Gold and Platinum lustres have then been applied to some areas of the outside, transfers of famous portraits have been inserted into the frames and the final firing has been to 800c. Small decorative objects have been glued to the piece in order to enhance the architectural aspect. The pot stands on three carved animal feet. It is named, signed and dated by the artist 2018. Currently on display at the Victoria Art Gallery Bath. |

peace/piece work
is the fifth piece in a series of pieces about work. It is a press moulded and coiled piece which has been made, from red-earthenware clay, into a flagon or bottle shape. This piece is representative of the work we do when making multiple pieces perhaps in an industrial manner, and also with the play on words in a peace making capacity. The piece has a dark blue/green slip application over angular star shaped paper stencils, then the paper has been removed to reveal the red clay underneath when the slip has dried to leather hard. It has then been indented with patterns of which some are symbols of peace, then fired to 1160c. Coloured glaze has been rubbed into the indentation and wiped away, as well as being painted on to the surface area before being fired to 1080c. Over-glaze enamel transfers and gold lustre has then been applied to some areas of the outside and fired again to 800c. The lid or stopper is a green glass paper-weight.
It is named, signed and dated by the artist 2018 and can be viewed at 'The Museum of Bath At Work'
