vole (love in disguise)
|
is a coiled piece made from white St Thomas clay which stands approximately 28cm high x 24cm in diameter. It is carved with letters which form a poem about all aspects of love. It has been fired to 1160c and then coloured glaze has been rubbed into the carving and wiped away as well as being painted on to the surface area before being fired to 1080c. Enamels and lustres have then been applied to some areas of the outside, inside and base, to give more definition then fired again to 800c. The ceramic sphere is then curated in a tall glass container, filled with found objects. This piece depicts love as a spherical female form, a container with a cherry on the top of the lid. The piece is surrounded by the commercial trappings of our western world, sugary sweet and unfulfilling. Inside the piece is the final verse which shows the value of true love, locked away, safe from harm, indestructible and unseen by the casual onlooker. Sold Newbridge Arts Trail 2022 |
